Front Desk Staff 

 

Description: Arq Mountain Centre is a climbing gym in Cranbrook, BC. We provide a variety of programming for all ages and aim to inspire movement by creating a welcoming environment for everyone in our community. We are seeking a qualified candidate to help run our front desk.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Customer service 

  • Retail sales of climbing equipment

  • Barista 

  • New climber orientation

  • Perform regular safety rounds of the gym

  • Cleaning 

  • Conduct top rope and lead belay tests 

 

Desired Qualifications:

  • Customer service experience 

  • Experience and passion for climbing and desire to share that passion with others

  • An unwavering commitment to safety  

  • A good work ethic including timeliness, dependability, and excellent communication skills 

  • Availability on weekends and during the day on weekdays a must 

 

Details:

  • This is a part time position at approx. 15-20hrs per week. 

  • Start date: September 1st, 2022 

  • Compensation commensurate upon experience.

Route Setter/Coach

 

Description: Arq Mountain Centre is a climbing gym in Cranbrook, BC. We provide a variety of programming for all ages and aim to inspire movement by creating a welcoming environment for everyone in our community.  

 

We are seeking a route setter and coach for our elite team. The route setter will be responsible for setting, safety, and maintenance of our walls. In addition, this individual will assist in coaching our elite team. Our elite team athletes train to compete at the National level. 

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ability to set and forerun both boulders and ropes 

  • Ensure routes are safe and can be climbed by people with varying styles and body types

  • Maintain all route setting equipment 

  • Conduct regular safety inspections for all gym equipment 

  • Work collaboratively with the rest of the setting team

  • Ability to accept and implement feedback on routes from both staff and the community

  • Wash holds

  • Coach and plan practices for high level athletes

  • Communicate with athletes and parents

  • Stay up to date on current coaching and training methods for youth athletes 

 

Desired Qualifications:

  • Extensive experience setting both ropes and boulders 

  • Experience completing safety inspections of climbing gym equipment 

  • Experience as a coach for high level athletes

  • Willingness to travel to competitions 

  • Former experience as a competitive climber is an asset 

  • Knowledge of current best practices for training for youth athletes including knowledge of the Long-Term Athlete Development Framework

  • Ability to pass a background check if hired 

  • A good work ethic including timeliness, dependability, and excellent communication skills 

 

Details:

  • This is a part time position at approx. 20hrs per week - if full time hours are desired additional roles such as front desk staff may be considered for the right candidate. 

  • Start date: September 1st, 2022 

  • Compensation commensurate upon experience.
